Diner-Style Patty Melt
Because they are not nearly as greasy as those from a diner, these homemade patty melts are quicker and easier to make.

Butter and oil are heated in a Dutch oven.

Add the onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 3 minutes while stirring constantly.

Allow onions to caramelize for about 20 minutes, covered with a lid and stirring occasionally to prevent burning.

In the meantime, thoroughly mix ground beef with garlic, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

Create four rectangular patties from ground beef.

In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook patties for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, flipping once.

Each patty should have a slice of Swiss cheese and an equal amount of caramelized onions on top.

Heat the oven’s broiler while positioning an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source.
