Seitan Wheat Meat (Vegan Meat Substitute)
For a simple meat substitute made from wheat that makes any dish vegan-friendly, try this recipe for seitan. Use it in stir-fries or sandwiches.
Mix the wheat gluten.
Combine 1/2 cup broth, liquid aminos, nutritional yeast, oil, and garlic in a bowl until the mixture forms a ball.
Knead the dough until it feels rubbery.
Create three equal patties out of the dough by dividing it into three equal pieces.
In a sizable pot, combine the remaining 4 cups of vegetable broth, water, and tamari; bring to a boil.
Carefully add patties to the simmering broth; cover the pan and bring the mixture back to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low and tilt the lid slightly to let steam out.
Continue simmering for about an hour, turning the patties occasionally, until they are firm.
Uncover the pot and turn off the heat.
Before serving, let the patties cool in the broth for 15 minutes.
