Iana’s Pasta con le Sarde
This traditional Sicilian pasta dish is topped with bread crumbs flavored with garlic and olive oil and has sardines, fennel, and pine nuts in the sauce.

Over medium heat, warm up the olive oil in a saucepan.

Add onion and fennel bulb fronds.

Cook for about 5 minutes, or until tender.

1 minute after adding the garlic.

Add the sardines and stir in the oil until crumbled.

Add the salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, pine nuts, basil, and fennel seeds and stir to combine.

Cook until toasted.

Add the tomatoes.

Sauce should simmer.

Large pot of lightly salted water should be brought to a boil.

Spaghetti should be cooked in boiling water for 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender but still firm to the bite.

On medium heat, warm oil in a different pan.

Add the garlic and cook for about a minute, until fragrant.

Add basil and bread crumbs.

Cook for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.
