Canadian Apple Pie
This Canadian apple pie is sweetened with – of course – maple syrup.
Set oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees C).
One pie crust should cover the pan.
In a big bowl, combine salt, cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Add whole egg, maple syrup, and apples to the cornstarch mixture.
Fill the prepared crust with the apple mixture.
Cut away extra dough before covering with top crust and sealing edges.
To let steam out, cut several tiny slits in the top.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and water; brush the mixture over the pie.
Pie should be placed on a baking sheet with aluminium foil covering it loosely.
For 35 minutes, bake in the preheated oven.
After removing the foil, bake the crust for another 15 minutes, or until it turns golden.
